Coming home to Minto

ENTREPRENEURS AARON AND TAYLOR KEUNEN ARE GROWING THEIR BUSINESSES AND FAMILY IN PALMERSTON

Tell us about you and your family.

“I [Taylor] grew up in Harriston, Aaron grew up in Drayton, and we both attended Norwell [District Secondary School] in Palmerston. After getting married in 2017, we decided to settle down in Palmerston. We are both self-employed: I operate my business branding and social media marketing business, TK Creative Studio, from home. Aaron is a co-owner of Mapleview Agri Ltd., just outside of Palmerston. In 2021, we welcomed our daughter Layla.”

Where did you move from and why did you decide to move to Minto?

“It's very special to be able to raise our young family in a community where we get to build on our existing roots and memories. Being able to live and work in Minto is something we are so grateful for. It allows us to live a more relaxed, flexible lifestyle that we have dreamt about.”

What are some of your favourite ways to spend time in Minto?

“We love taking family walks in scenic Lions Heritage Park and visiting the Minto Farmers' Market in the summer months. I (Taylor) am also the co-chair of the Palmerston Beautification Committee and love helping beautify the downtown with other volunteers. We are also looking forward to the much-anticipated Raleway Festival coming up this summer!”

Do you have a favourite local business or place to shop?

“I love grabbing a smoothie from Jen and Nik at Feel Alive Wellness Station on my way to LaunchIt to use their coworking space. As an entrepreneur working from home, it's great to have access to change of scenery and so many helpful resources and programs.

“I also love the friendly staff and variety at Palmerston Foodland and Palmerston Home Hardware, shopping for Layla at Teenie Tiny Tots, and being pampered at Studio Apri. We know most business owners by name and love to support them because they go above and beyond for their customers, as well as the community.”

What has surprised you about living here?

“We love Minto because it is a small and close-knit community, yet it always has something going on and we are always meeting new people. The summer months are packed full with events, programming and recreational activities.”

What would you tell someone who was interested in living or moving here?

“We love day trips to the beach, and also enjoy experiencing nearby cities and their amenities. Minto allows us to do both of these things as it is central and only takes an hour to travel to either place. It's the perfect location for our young family. We also highly recommend Minto for individuals who work remotely (fantastic fibre internet!) or are wanting to start their own business. There are so many resources and grants, and the Economic Development Department is always eager to assist in any way they can.”
