Following love all the way to Minto

Caitlyn and andrew relocated to minto from alberta, and love the small town vibe

The Turton family frequently visits the Palmerston Carnegie Library.

Tell us about you and your family.

“My name is Caitlyn Turton and I work as receptionist for the Town of Minto. My husband Andrew is a residential driver for Waste Management. We have a rambunctious 3-year-old girl named Zoe, and a busy toddler named Lennox. We have been renting in Palmerston for the past few years, and just purchased our first home earlier this year.”

Where did you move from and why did you decide to move to Minto?

“I’m an import from beautiful Alberta – I moved here a few years ago when my boyfriend (now husband) was laid off during the recession. He wanted to come home to Minto, and I decided to leave everything behind and head to Minto despite never having been east of Saskatchewan. The things we do for love!”

“Minto is the kind of place that you would want to raise your children in - its small town vibe and friendly citizens make you feel like a part of the community even if you are new to the area.”

What are some of your favourite ways to spend time in Minto?

“My favourite things about Minto are the many community events and welcoming small town feel. Whether it was the handcar races [at the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum], visiting at the Palmerston Legion after the Santa Claus parade, or listening to local music at the Party in the Park, there are always welcoming smiles and great conversation. My two kids love going for a stroll and playing at the Lions Heritage Park, and especially love racing around the splash pad in the summer!”

Do you have a favourite local business or place to shop?

“My favourite place to grab a slice is Small Town Pizza in Palmerston. A little known secret is their amazing chicken ranch burger and poutine, which are so good.

And speaking of poutine, in the summer you can get a mean one at the Red Caboose in Harriston, and enjoy it on their outside patio – it’s a nice relaxing vibe.”

What has surprised you about living here?

“I love the gardens in Minto – people take so much pride in making their yards beautiful. I love just taking the kids out for a walk looking at all the gardens.”

What would you tell someone who was interested in living or moving here?

“Minto is the kind of place that you would want to raise your children in - its small town vibe and friendly citizens make you feel like a part of the community even if you are new to the area.”
